City Seeking Local Input on Power Integrated Resource Plan

Published on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 | 10:12 am

The city is conducting a survey on its Power Integrated Resource Plan (IRP.)

The Power Integrated Resource Plan (“IRP”) is Pasadena’s long-range blueprint for supplying reliable and environmentally responsible electricity at competitive rates.

the department produces an IRP every five years in accordance with Senate Bill 350, and issues periodic voluntary updates. Pasadena Water and Power published an IRP in 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018, and, most recently in 2021.

According to Jeffrey Kightlinger, Interim General Manager of Water and Power (PWP).

As stakeholder participation is crucially important in the development of an IRP, a survey is now live at https://www.PWPweb.com/PowerIRP.

Additionally, PWP is recruiting participants for the Stakeholder Technical Advisory Group (STAG) for the upcoming 2023 IRP.

Members of the public are encouraged to provide feedback through the survey and apply to serve on the STAG.

The STAG is generally comprised of approximately 15 representatives consisting of ratepayers, residential and commercial customers, community partners, environmental group members, neighborhood associations, municipal representatives, city leadership, and other interested individuals.

This STAG helps ensure community priorities are represented throughout the process. PWP coordinates the STAG, and the group assists in the development of the IRP in an advisory capacity, which includes identifying priorities, actions, and timelines.

The process creates a space for robust, informed, and dynamic dialogue on resource decisions, and gives participants a unique opportunity to provide valuable input on power supply issues important to the community.

STAG applicants must be either residents of Pasadena and/or employed by a Pasadena business, or demonstrate a vested interest in the City of Pasadena. Additionally, participants are expected to attend a two-hour meeting every six weeks during business hours; Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., October through April 2023. Interested individuals may submit an application at https://www.PWPweb.com/PowerIRP through May 31.
