City’s Human Relations Commission Will Hear Report From Police About Hate Crimes

The Pasadena Human Relations Commission will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Community Center. The meeting will be chaired by Sandy Greenstein.

The agenda includes an update from the Pasadena Police Department regarding hate crimes and incidents in Pasadena, presented by Lieutenant Carlo Montiglio. This update is timely given the recent national focus on hate crimes.

New business items include a presentation on discrimination against Asian-Americans in Pasadena by Kaz Doi. Additionally, Camila Camaleón, President of the Board of Directors for the San Gabriel Valley LGBTQ Center, will present on the safety and well-being of the San Gabriel LGBTQ+ community.

The commission will also discuss plans to recognize Sheldon Epps for his accomplishments at the Pasadena Playhouse Theater. A presentation from Hahn and Hahn Law Firm will detail their efforts to work with local groups adversely impacted by a decades-old hate campaign aimed at preventing people of color from buying property in Pasadena.

The meeting will conclude with a discussion and approval of the Work Plan and Presentation Calendar updates for February, March, and April 2024.

The meeting is open to the public, and there will be a period for public comment for items not on the agenda. The commission encourages community members to attend and participate in these important discussions.

The facility is located a 1020 North Fair Oaks Avenue. According to a City document, the meeting will not be livestreamed.
