Co-owner and co-founder of Pasadena-based Stats Floral Supply, Savas “Jerry” Stathatos, passed away this week. He was 87.

His father opened the famous Broadway Florist on Broadway, between 4th and 5th Streets in 1910. Jerry and his brother Dan took over the floral business when their father died in 1941. They were only teenagers when they were left in charge of five Boradway florist stores.

The two brothers opened their first Stats store in Pasadena in 1962. They also acquired Pasadena-based Fishbecks Patio Center in 1981.

Stathatos is survived by his wife Helen, his son John and wife Monica, his son Paul and wife Susan, his daughter Jerre Ann Pappelis, his brother Dan, four nephews and six grandchildren.

Saint Sophia Cathedral will hold a Trisagion in Stathatos’s memory on Friday, January 31, at 7:30 p.m. The funeral services will also be at Saint Sophia Cathedral, 1324 S. Normandie Ave., on Saturday, February 1, at 10:00 a.m.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Jerry Stathatos’s name to St. Sophia Cathedral or Descanso Gardens.
