Pasadena’s Department of Public Works is spearheading an effort to promote environmental sustainability by engaging residents in community composting. A training session will be conducted on Saturday, May 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Singer Park, situated at the corner of California Boulevard and St. John Avenue.

The initiative seeks to empower community members with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively compost organic materials such as food scraps, yard trimmings, leaves, and other plant-based waste. By diverting these biodegradable items from landfills, the City hopes to mitigate the environmental impact of methane emissions and foster a circular economy.

“Registration is not required,” stated the Department of Public Works, encouraging participation in the training program.

Upon completion of the training, participants will be equipped to contribute to the City’s sustainable waste management efforts by properly composting organic materials at designated community hubs. The resultant compost will be utilized to enrich local soils, facilitating a closed-loop system that reduces waste while simultaneously nourishing the environment.
