Community Meeting on ‘Cooling Pasadena’ Planned Thursday

City officials are hosting an online meeting Thursday to gather thoughts from residents of the Lincoln Avenue and the Holly Street/Ramona Street neighborhoods as part of Pasadena’s ongoing effort to cool down city streets amid increasing temperatures attributed to climate change.

Input for the “Cooling Pasadena” project will be sought during the meeting, scheduled for 4 p.m. and accessible via Zoom or by phone, city officials said.

It is “one of several projects the City of Pasadena is working on to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” city officials said in a written statement. “This project specifically helps to implement measures that are identified in the Pasadena Climate Action Plan and General Plan, such as policies aimed at creating a more resilient and sustainable community.

Proposed solutions to help cool down local streets have included planting trees and vegetation, adding shade structures, resurfacing streets with heat-reducing materials and installing water features.

“This project will focus on identifying strategies to cool Pasadena’s streets to reduce the risks of climate change and reduce greenhouse emissions,” according to the city statement.

Those interested were asked to RSVP for the meeting online at https://coolingpasadena.com, where additional information on the Cooling Pasadena project can also be found.
