Congresswoman Chu Praises White House for Intellectual Property Plan

Today, the Obama Administration released its 2013 Joint Strategic Plan on Intellectual Property Enforcement. Congresswoman Judy Chu, Co-Chair of the Congressional Creative Rights Caucus, released the following statement:

“Online theft profoundly impacts the creative community. As the House Judiciary Committee continues its copyright review, I welcome the Administration’s proposals for stronger copyright protections and heightened enforcement efforts to stop the most serious online infringements. The U.S. economy loses $58 billion in total output annually due to copyright piracy. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Creative Rights Caucus, I commend the Obama Administration for recognizing the threat that it poses to our economy and American innovation and ingenuity. Creative works are one of our most precious exports, and cannot be duplicated anywhere else in the world. We must do everything we can to protect them.”

The Congressional Creative Rights Caucus serves to educate Members of Congress and the general public about the importance of preserving and protecting the rights of the creative community in the U.S. American creators of motion pictures, music, software, and other creative works rely on Congress to protect their copyrights, human rights, First Amendment rights, and property rights.
