Convicted Sex Offender in Court Tuesday on Charges He Kidnapped Two Pasadena Women

A man accused of kidnapping two women in April — one of whom jumped from a moving vehicle to make her escape — will be in a Pasadena courtroom Tuesday for a preliminary.

Anthony Seth McDaniel, who at the time of his arrest was wearing a GPS tracking device around his ankle in connection with another crime, allegedly kidnapped the two women from a bus stop located at Fair Oaks Avenue and Montana Street and tried to force them into performing oral sex, police said.

McDaniel, 38, had coaxed the 18-year-olds into his car by promising to give them a ride somewhere when one of them realized he was going the opposite direction of their destination. She subsequently jumped out of the moving pickup truck before it could get on the I-210 Freeway, according to authorities.

The woman suffered a broken ankle during her escape.

After this, McDaniel allegedly held the second victim at gunpoint and continued onto the 110 Freeway into Los Angeles. She was able to eventually able to stop the vehicle by yanking the steering wheel, causing a collision with another car, according to police.

McDaniel then pushed her out of the truck and sped away and was not arrested until later at his workplace. He was found because of the tracking device he was wearing, authorities said.

He is facing two counts of kidnapping with intent to commit a sex crime and special circumstances of causing bodily harm during the crime, according to police.

According to California’s sex registrant database, McDaniel was convicted of assault with intent to commit a sex offense in 2008.
