Councilmember Kennedy Issues Statement Condemning Anti-Asian American, Anti-Pacific Islander Violence

In a statement condemning violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Councilman John Kennedy called for the full of force of the nation’s law enforcement agencies and the Justice Department.

“Dear Friends and Neighbors,

During these past few months, our country has witnessed a dramatic increase in incidents of violence and hate against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

I condemn the violence, harassment and murder of our Asian brothers and sisters. There can be no equivocation on this issue. We must bring the full force of law enforcement and the justice department down upon those who would target Asians for harm, no matter the quarter of where such evil lurks.”

The City Council on Monday is set to adopt a resolution condemning the increased violence. The meeting begins at 4:30 p.m.  

“We stand solidly and firmly with our friends, neighbors, colleagues and family members who are Asian and Pacific Islander. We implore everyone in our community to call out and take action against anti-Asian racism when and wherever you see it.

“I pledge our support for all underrepresented communities, and ask for your commitment to this goal as well. We must work together to eliminate racism from every area of our society, work to educate, and work towards true equity for all community members.

My message for our fellow Asian Community here in the City of Pasadena is that we send our love, empathy, and support and we want you to know that you are not alone in your suffering.”
