Councilmember John J. Kennedy announced on Sunday that he has been endorsed for re-election by ACT, a non-partisan progressive grass-roots organization, and by the Arroyo Democratic Club, one of the largest Democratic grass-roots organizations in the San Gabriel Valley.

Kennedy has served nine years on the City Council. He is running against political newcomer Brandon Lamar.

Kennedy said it was his record of solid achievements in office, as well as his vision for the next four years, which earned him the support of both groups.

“I am particularly proud to be endorsed by ACT, which has for nearly 50 years been continually active and one of the most respected voices in Pasadena politics,” Kennedy said. “They have a long and proud history of fighting for equity, inclusion and progressive policies across the many issues that the city faces, and I hope to uphold that tradition in my next four years in office.”

Kennedy kicked off his re-election Campaign two weeks ago with a community rally, featuring Congresswoman Judy Chu, one of many local leaders and groups endorsing Kennedy’s re-election bid.

Other local leaders endorsing Kennedy include Assemblymember Chris Holden, County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, the LA County Federation of Labor, the LA League of Conservation Voters, IBEW Local 11, Unite Here Local 11, the Southern California Armenian Democrats, and numerous neighborhood association members and leaders, many of whom attended the kick-off rally.

Kennedy pledged to continue fighting to ensure the City’s Community Police Oversight Commission’s recommendations are implemented, and that officers continue to use body-worn cameras.

He is fighting to ensure the construction of at least 3,000 new units of housing, with a strong emphasis on affordable housing and on the equitable distribution of that housing across the city.

He has also taken the lead in securing funding for the rehabilitation of the Sunset Reservoirs in his district, which supply about 25% of the city’s drinking water.
