Councilmember Madison Appoints Chapman District 6 Field Representative

Award-winning journalist Justin Chapman has taken a job as Steve Madison’s field representative.

Chapman replaces Takako Suzuki. He began his new job on Monday. Suzuki’s last day is Dec. 30. Suzuki and Chapman will work together before she leaves her job at City Hall. 

Chapman recently won several LA Press Club journalism awards, including first place in the Travel Reporting category and third place in the TV/Public Affairs category for hosting

“NewsRap Local.” In March, “NewsRap Local” won a second place award in News Programming at the Alliance for Community Media West’s WAVE video awards.

Chapman has written articles for Pasadena Now and the Pasadena Weekly.

“Justin is perfect for this role,” said Pasadena Now Managing Editor André Coleman. “He’s got his pulse on the community, and he knows the issues. I’ve known him since he walked into the PW and began his journey in journalism. He was still a teenager, but he quickly became one of the best reporters in town. He’s got the awards on the wall to prove it.”

Chapman became the youngest person elected to the Altadena Town Council In 2005  when he defeated the 57-year old vice chairman. Chapman captured 63% of the vote. He was reelected in 2007. During his time on the council, he founded and chaired the council’s Education Committee, and began a process to look into having Altadena secede from the Pasadena Unified School District and create its own school district.

He also served as Secretary on the American Civil Liberties Union Southern California Pasadena Foothills Chapter board of directors for five years.
