COVID-19 Infection Rate in Pasadena Hits Lowest Number Since Week City Saw First Case in 2020

The number of daily COVID-19 infections detected over the prior week in Pasadena reached a pandemic low of 0.9 on Thursday, representing the lowest figure recorded since the city saw its first case of the virus in March of 2020, according to city data.

A single case of COVID-19 detected on Thursday raised Pasadena’s total to 11,296 infections, as the city surpassed a full month without a daily case count climbing out of single digits.

But two additional deaths were added to the pandemic total, city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.

A man in his 60s died in January but was only recently confirmed as having succumbed to COVID-19, she said. The death of a man in his 70s who died at a care facility in December was also added to city records after investigation determined COVID-19 to be the cause.

In all, 349 deaths have been attributed to the pandemic in Pasadena, according to the Pasadena Public Health Department.

Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials reported 228 new infections and nine deaths on Thursday, bringing the county totals to 1,244,459 infections and 24,364 fatalities.

Officials listed 244 COVID-19 patients hospitalized throughout the county, with 17% of them being treated in intensive care units.

The California Department of Public Health announced 773 infections and 48 deaths on Thursday, raising the state’s totals to 3,686,689 COVID-19 cases and 62,092 fatalities.

The state’s average positivity rate over the prior week was recorded at 0.9%, according to CDPH data.

As of Thursday, L.A. County accounted for 34% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 39% of the state’s deaths.
