COVID-19 Lingers in Pasadena, With 2 Cases Reported Wednesday

For the third day in a row, two COVID-19 cases were reported in Pasadena on Wednesday,

A total of 11,324 infections have been recorded in all in the city, according to the Pasadena Public Health Department.

Officials have also documented 349 fatalities, with the most recent reported on June 3.

Pasadena’s average number of weekly infections over the prior week increased slightly to 1.1, city data shows.

County officials reported 260 new infections and 11 deaths on Wednesday, raising the overall tallies to 1,248,128 cases of COVID-19 and 24,455 fatalities.

Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials also reported 230 patients hospitalized throughout the county with the virus, with 25% of them being treated in intensive care units.

L.A. County Director of Public Health said with the especially dangerous Delta variant spreading quickly, vaccination is becoming more important than ever.

“Given the significant increase in the circulation of the Delta variant — which is now estimated to be responsible for 20% of cases across the U.S., sensible public health precautions are recommended at all worksites and megaevents,” she said in a written statement.

“Unless vaccination status can be verified when indoors in crowded places, masks prevent virus transmission,” Ferrer added. “Workers that are unvaccinated and working indoors with sustained close contact with others should be provided with a respirator and where appropriate, a solid partition. Until we get more individuals vaccinated, let’s make sure workplaces are as safe as possible.”

State public health officials announced 787 new infections on Wednesday, bringing the total up to 3,705,427, along with 40 additional deaths, raising the state’s death toll to 62,741.

The state’s average positivity rate over the prior week was recorded at 1.1%, according to California Department of Public Health Data.

As of Wednesday, L.A. County represented 34% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 39% of the state’s deaths.
