The Criminal Justice Statistics Center, State of California, will soon release its preliminary report, “Crime in 2009, January through June.” The report compares preliminary counts of crimes from January through June 2008 with those of the same period in 2009. The report reflects information reported through August 31, 2009.
These statistics show a 24.7% reduction in violent crime (homicide, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) and a 4.1% reduction in property crimes (burglary, motor vehicle theft, and larceny theft).
“The police department attributes this continued success to several contributing factors,” says Interim Chief of Police Christopher Vicino. “We continually apply the philosophy of prevention, intervention, and enforcement. We arrested 89 violent gang members last year which had a significant impact on street level crime and the availability of drugs and money. In addition, the men and women of the Pasadena Police Department have worked especially hard, and lastly and most importantly, the commitment of the Pasadena community to work with the police department to fight crime cannot be emphasized enough.
