Great concept for Valentine’s Day: A clever, romantic way you get to hold your partner for forty-five minutes.  Yes, dancing.

“What other sport do you actually get to hold you partner for 45 minutes?” asks Arthur Murray Dance Studio Director George Estrada. “Everyone here always has open arms and we always say ‘share a lot of love through dancing.'”

Besides, chimes in Studio Executive Regina Erickson, dancing is “a gift that lasts. You buy the flowers, they die. You get the chocolates, they’re eaten.” But knowing how to dance well is something you can always use. So it’s the perfect gift that will last literally a lifetime.

It’s no secret that most men have to be dragged to the dance floor.

But Estrada lets a secret out of the bag:  “Many gentlemen are afraid to come in,” he says. They don’t want to look silly on the dance floor, simply because they don’t know how to dance.

Catch a football? Slam dunk? Spike a volleyball? Sure, they’ve done all these countless times. Foxtrot? Suddenly, they get nervous………..

“But once they come in and we teach them, they actually enjoy it more than the women,” Estrada laughs. “That is the real secret. Because, I kid you not, for about 60 percent of my couples the women brought the men in and now the men are the one saying ‘let’s go, let’s dance!'”

Estrada and Erickson say their studio offers three types of lessons: private lessons, groups, and parties.

“Private lessons are your one-on-one action where you get to learn how to lead, follow, make everything work and feel great no matter who you’re dancing with,” Estrada explains.

“Group lessons are designed for your feet patterns, control, balance. Then we have parties — those are lessons designed for real life parties. Just like if you were at a night club, wedding, or cruise — only the  difference is here we have instructors, so if you get lost, we come in to help you!”

Erickson adds, “It’s a safer environment because you get to meet all the other students learning, you meet friends here.”

The lessons are 45 minutes long, and range from $36 to $60. And where else, they both point out, can you and your sweetheart walk in, but dance out?
