Authorities on Wednesday released the identity of a 43-year-old Pasadena man who died in a collision between his car and a big rig on the 210 Freeway Tuesday evening.

David Adji Artinian died in the crash, which took place shortly after 7 p.m. on the westbound 210 Freeway, just west of Mountain Street, in Pasadena, according to California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner officials.

Artinian was at the wheel of a 2016 Scion sedan that rear-ended a big rig, Officer A. Bacon of the CHP’s Altadena-area office said in a written statement.

The car was traveling at “an unknown high rate of speed and collided into the rear of the tractor trailer, which was traveling at approximately 55 mph in the No. 5 lane,” according to the officer.

Paramedics pronounced Artinian dead at the scene, officials said.

A 35-year-old Washington man who was driving the big rig was unhurt, according to the CHP.

The cause and circumstances of the collision remained under investigation.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information, can reach the CHP’s Altadena-area office at (626) 296-8100.
