Due to COVID Risk, Fire Department is Not Collecting Toys at Fire Stations for Spark of Love Toy Drive – But the Love Continues

Virtual toy drive runs through December 24

The Pasadena Fire Department has partnered with the ABC-7/ Spark of Love Toy Drive since its inception 28 years ago, distributing thousands of toys to underprivileged children.

This year, the Spark of Love Toy Drive started on Nov. 9 and continues to Dec. 24. However, due to Covid 19, firefighters will not be collecting toys at any of its fire stations.

The change is an effort to protect not only those making donations and firefighters but also the children who will be receiving the toys. The department currently does not have the ability to properly decontaminate all the toys prior to distributing them.

But people can still help in a variety of ways.

  1. Donate new, unused toys by ordering from a favorite online retailer and having them delivered directly to the nonprofit organization of choice. This is to limit the number of people coming into contact with the toys, making this event as safe as possible. People may also make a financial donation to a participating nonprofit organization so they can make the necessary purchases for the children they are supporting. To locate your favorite nonprofit, visit https://www.cityofpasadena.net/fire/wp-content/uploads/sites/25/2020-Spark-of-Love-Non-Profit-Recipients-List.pdf

  2. Purchase gift cards from Pasadena businesses. A gift card drive is a great way to continue participating in the program while spending locally. Gift cards can be dropped off at the Fire Administration Office. If unable to drop them off, send an email and they will arrange pick-up in a safe manner.

  3. There is also the option to order toys from a favorite online retailer and have them delivered directly to the Fire Administration Office.

Again, for everyone’s safety, please do not drop off toys at any Pasadena Fire Station.

For more information, contact Veronica Petty at (626) 744-4112 or email her at  vpetty@cityofpasadena.net. The address for delivery of toys or gift cards is Pasadena Fire Department, Fire Administration, 215 N. Marengo Ave., Suite 195, Pasadena, CA., 91101.
