Early bird registration for LCPC Parent Education’s Fall Program is happening now through August 1st! Anyone who registers for a Parent Ed class by August 1st will receive an automatic $75 discount applied at time of registration. Entering its 42nd year, Parent Ed offers 16 daytime classes for parents of children 0-18 that provide education, friendship, and support. Each class is taught by reputable staff who each have a master’s degree or 20+ years of teaching experience (or both!), decades of parenting experience, and a deep love for God. Parent Ed attracts over 500 participants from 22 different cities. Classes will meet weekly September through May, in-person on the LCPC campus with social distancing protocols and other protective measures for staff and participants in place, as mandated by the city and LCPC governance. This year, class sizes may be more limited than in the past, so do not wait to register and reserve your spot now!

Parents of newborns through age 5 attend joint Parent-and-Child Classes where both children and adults form lasting friendships, as well as receive valuable education and practical advice from seasoned educators. Babies and Spring Infants (Jan-May only) classes focus on the first-year challenges of eating, sleeping and changing family dynamics– while Toddler and Two-Year Old classes add discussions on discipline, potty training and nurturing the whole child. Family Class allows parents to bring all children ages 0-5—and discusses raising young children, while creating healthy family patterns in a multi-child home. Parenting 3-4 Year Olds focuses on kindergarten prep, nurturing the whole child and developing self-regulation.

Parents with school-aged children attend Parent-Only Sessions to examine the new set of challenges that accompanies raising elementary, tween and teen children. Parents of Elementary Kids covers the latest in brain research and how it relates to children’s development, learning, behavior and relationships. Parents of Tweens features active learning and group discussion related to pre-adolescent issues such as puberty, peer relationships, technology and growing in independence. Parents of High Schoolers creates a lively class on adolescent identity, family communication, mental health, dating, driving, college preparation and learning to “let go.” Parenting Your Exceptional Child, taught by brain trainer Vicki Rekedal, is designed for parents of children “outside the box” who are managing exceptional issues like ADD/ADHD, autism, social challenges, high IQ, etc. Lastly, after a successful pilot year, GRAND-Parenting, taught by renowned parent educator Jan Roberts, returns for a second year. This class is designed to provide information and support to all grandparents with any age grandchild, whether living near or far. Grandparents will discuss updates on current cultural issues, technology use, as well as ways to create a legacy for grandchildren.
