The anticipated return to Pasadena of the SoCal Women’s Conference this week has been postponed and rescheduled to March 22, 2024, founder and organizer Lena Kennedy said Tuesday.

Kennedy said the postponement was a show of support for the workers’ strike by Pasadena Hilton housekeepers, bellhops, servers, dishwashers, and front desk staff represented by UNITE HERE Local 11.

The annual Conference brings together thousands of women, community-based health organizations, medical professionals, and beauty and wellness experts.

It features prominent speakers, resources, and optional activities such as luncheons and fashion shows.

The event, open to all, will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at he Pasadena Hilton at 168 S. Los Robles Ave. in Pasadena.

The conference has been going on for over 20 years now. It is organized by Lena Kennedy and Community Women Vital Voices.

Teena Hostovich, SoCal Women’s Conference co-chair said the event is the result of Kennedy’s vision and her experiences in the community as a child of a large family with lots of different health conditions.

“Her passion is that everyone in the United States and in our community in particular has access to good quality healthcare,” said Hostovich.

Hostovich said the event will provide attendees with information about the most prevalent health concerns impacting women, including heart disease and breast cancer.

After seeing her mother dying of breast cancer and after battling breast cancer herself, Hostovich expressed the importance of taking care of one’s health.

“During the pandemic, I had stage three breast cancer and a stroke, and I’m doing great, I’m doing fine. But I do feel that one of the things that I came away with that learning was the things that perhaps I wasn’t doing to take better care of myself and manage my own health.”

“And I think it is our responsibility to manage our own health. And that’s one of the things the conference attempts to bring home and teach people.

Hostovich believes the event will help women plan how they could take care of themselves better and give them awareness and confidence.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger is expected to attend the event.
