A man brandished a gun at a man and his young children as they sat in their car in the parking lot of a KFC restaurant in Pasadena on Friday night, authorities said.

The crime took place just after 10 p.m. outside the eatery at 2896 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said.

A 29-year-old Pasadena man was waiting to pick up his wife from the business, where she worked, along with the couple’s children, ages 5 and 9, he said.

A man approached the family, leaned inside their car, brandished a handgun and asked them “where they were from,” according to the lieutenant.

The children seated in the back of the car screamed, he said. The gunman then placed his weapon back in his waistband and walked away. He was last seen headed west along Colorado Boulevard.

He was described as a Black man in his 40s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and wearing an orange T-shirt.
