A Pasadena man was arrested Monday for attempted homicide after he allegedly tried to strangle his 2-year-old son during an argument with the boy’s mother, police said.

Officers found the mother with the boy near the intersection of Orange Grove Boulevard and Madison Avenue at around 12:37 p.m.

The mother described what had happened and the officers then went to a residence in the 600 block of North Oakland Avenue, where they arrested the boy’s father, Aaron Gregory Bereal, 36, without incident, according to Pasadena Police Lt. Pete Hettema and booking records.

The boy was rushed to a local hospital but was determined to not be injured.

“Serious actions — but apparently that the damage to the child was fairly minimal,” Hettema said.

Bereal was booked at the Pasadena City Jail for attempted homicide, according to Hettema.

Sheriff’s Dept. booking records indicate Bereal continues to be held in Pasadena in lieu of $1 million bail.
