Firefighters made quick work of a brushfire that scorched about three acres in the Arroyo beneath the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The brushfire was first reported shortly before 11:30 a.m., said Pasadena spokesperson Lisa Derderian.
Both Pasadena and Los Angeles County firefighters responded to the blaze, Derderian said. Water-dropping helicopters were initially summoned to the scene but were canceled as firefighters on the ground gained control of the slow-moving fire.
Officials declared the fire extinguished in about a half-hour, according to Derderian. No injuries or property damage were reported.
Calm winds, a quick response from firefighters and good brush clearance around nearby homes helped prevent the situation from being much worse, she said.
“If we had any winds at all, homes would have definitely been threatened,” Derderian said.
A Los Angeles County Fire Department hand crew remained on scene well into the afternoon looking for any potential hotspots or flare-ups, she added.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
