Lancer Ricky Blair gets loose for one of his three TD catches during PCC's loss at LA Harbor College on Saturday night, image by Richard Quinton.

In the final minute, Even hit Blair for a sideline pattern completion and a TD that cut the score to one. Kicker Simon Simental, added to the roster this week and a Pasadena High product, missed the extra point.

It was a rough night for PCC kickers. The Lancers missed two field goals in the second quarter, a 47-yard attempt by Simental and a 32-yard try by freshman Fray Rodriguez (Muir High). Rodriguez did hit a 24-yard FG that cut Harbor’s lead to 14-3 as time ran in the first half. PCC also missed on a 36-yard attempt in the third quarter that was nullified on a Harbor penalty. That drive resulted in no points. All three misses had the distance but were just wide of the uprights. PCC later had a 15-yard shank punt that gave LAHC the ball on the Lancers’ 25 (Harbor did not score on the next series).

Twice, the Lancers had pass plays that cost them too. With PCC on the Harbor 16 and 7:17 left in the game, Even’s only mistake was a Harbor pickoff in the end zone by Clarence Taylor. In the third quarter after a 67-yard kick return by freshman Joseph Thomas (Pasadena HS), Even had a 21-yard throw dropped in the end zone by a wide-open PCC receiver.

Harbor’s winning points turned out to be a 26-yard FG by Jorge Paz early in the fourth quarter. Paz made all three of his extra point kicks. Seahawks’ quarterback Clark Livingstone, who also serves as his team’s punter came up with one of the game’s biggest plays when he got off a 53-yard punt with Harbor pinned on its own 1-yard line in the opening quarter.

Livingstone was his team’s best offensive player as he rushed for a game-high 77 yards (13 attempts) and passed for 183 yards and one TD.

“We left at least 21 points off the board that changes the whole game,” said PCC head coach Thom Kaumeyer. “Still, we made a giant improvement from a real poor effort v. Grossmont in our home opener. The defense kept us in the game and so did Jett and our passing with a short-handed offensive line. Against El Camino and Harbor, we were in a position to win the game late. If we can keep it close, we will win that type of game soon.”

Some of PCC’s highlights were tremendous catches by transfer sophomore WR Tony Claxton (Muir HS), a 29-yard diving grab, and a similar outstretched 20-yard reception by letterman Donell Tuff. Blair led the team with 83 yards in five catches and Tuff also had five receptions for 60 yards. Another brightspot was sophomore running back Justin Carroll, who ran for 48 yards in 11 carries. Hawaiian freshman Trensten Spragling added a 52-yard kick return.

On defense, frosh defensive back Kendell Jefferson (Gladstone HS) made eight tackles A (six solos) and added a 19-yard interception return. Sophomore cornerback Evan Alexander also made an interception. First-year lineman Jaren Jackson (from Atlanta, Ga.) had five tackles, 3.5 for loss and a sack. Sophomore linebacker Sean Cowell made a team-high nine tackles and fellow letterman LB Jalyn Williams added seven tackles.

The Lancers open SCFA National Northern Conference play next Saturday, Sept. 26 when they host College of the Canyons in a 6 p.m. kickoff at Robinson Stadium. Canyons is the division’s early leader at 3-0.
