Former Muir Standout Kevon Seymour Plays His Heart Out in SC’s 45-42 Holiday Bowl Win Over Nebraska

The USC Trojans outlasted the Nebraska Cornhuskers by a final of 45-42 Saturday on a chilly night in San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium  in front of 55,789 fans.

The 2014 Holiday Bowl was still in doubt as the final pass sailed in the night towards a possible game winning touchdown. But the ball was batted down and right next to the play defending was Pasadena’s own- former Muir High School standout Kevon Seymour.

Seymour has been one of the standouts on the team all year and has moved to first on the depth chart through determination and hard work.

The Trojans took a commanding lead of 45-27 at one point late in the third quarter but the visiting Cornhuskers refused to go quietly into the very cold night. A 65 yard pass from QB Tommy Armstrong Jr. to Jordan Westerkamp quickly reduced the lead. Late in the game Nebraska cut it to three, however the Trojans forced a turnover on downs deep in their own territory to seal the victory and end the season on a positive note.

Seymour will return for his Senior season and next year’s USC team is regarded as the strongest they have had in several years. Coming into this game the Trojans acted excited to be here and it showed on the field. Congratulations University of Southern California and Kevon Seymour- way to make us proud young man! As a prep star he played in the U.S Army All-American bowl in San Antonio, Texas. He was the ninth highest ranked cornerback in the nation and 85th overall in the entire nation.

A very inspiring story from a man with humble beginnings, growing up in the housing projects of northwest Pasadena called Community Arms, aka the “Snake Pits”.

Said Seymour,” It’s called the Snake Pits because of the fighting and gang violence that goes on in there, I could have easily been sucked into that kind of life, but I wasn’t because I am a leader, not a follower”.

And he helped USC to victory on this Saturday night.
