A foundation launched by former Tournament of Roses President Brad Ratliff and his wife Susan awarded $5,000 to Pasadena City College music students for the first time last month.
The Oboe Foundation established The Oboe Foundation Scholarships at PCC and awarded to qualifying students in the areas of Jazz Instrumental, Jazz Vocal, Classical Piano, Classical Voice and Musical Composition.
Ratcliff told Pasadena Now the Foundation’s mission is to advocate for and support instrumental music programs in public schools.
On Monday, April 24 The Oboe Foundation presented its first-ever round of PCC scholarships at PCC’s spring awards event for the music department. Presenting the scholarships was Oboe Foundation Board Member, Rob Lee.
“Our lives with The Oboe Foundation have been enriched and broadened by the gift of music, so we want to give back all that music has given to us and provide every opportunity for music to enrich the lives of a new generation of students,” Lee said.
The Oboe Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 and provides support to instrumental music programs in local schools, focusing on instructional and developmental opportunities for students through strategic partnerships, community association and educational outreach.
