Pasadena Area Community College District Board Member Sandra Chen Lau announced today that she will be co-hosting an online conversation about school re-openings in California from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m on Feb. 17.
The forum will feature Assemblyman Phil Ting (D-San Francisco).
Ting serves as chair of the Assembly Budget Committee and is the author of Assembly Bill 10, which details reopening the state’s schools with guidance on in-person instruction and distance learning.
The meeting will be attended by Pasadena Board of Education President Scott Phelps and Board members Tina Wu Fredericks, Michelle Richardson Bailey and Jennifer Hall Lee.
Although the four school board members represent a quorum of the board, the Ralph M. Brown Act, which governs meetings by legislative bodies in California, does allow a majority of the board to attend a conference or similar gathering “open to the public” that involves a discussion of issues of general interest to the public or to public agencies of the type faced by that body, as long as they don’t convene to discuss PUSD matters.
Chen Lau will also be joined by local school board members from the La Canada Flintridge and San Marino school districts.
