Friends In Deed Helps Kids With Back-to-School Backpack & School Supply Drive

Friends in Deed will be welcoming Pasadena students back to school in the fall with a Backpack and School Supply Drive over the course of two Saturdays, July 31 and Aug. 2.

After spending most of the last school year learning remotely, students are excited to return to the physical classroom and to their friends, which makes the 2021-22 Back to School event more important, Friends in Deed said.

With the Backpack and School Supply Drive, the Pasadena nonprofit hopes to be able to help families who are facing financial concerns “as they have in the past,” which could make preparing their children for the new school year a bigger challenge.

“We aren’t able to make this happen without your help and support,” Friends in Deed said in a statement. “Every year, we come to you, our supporters and family, to make the Back-to-School Backpack and School Supply Drive one for which we can all be proud.”

Even with the pandemic raging, Friends in Deed last year distributed over 300 backpacks, filled with school supplies, to school-aged children in the Pasadena area.

To help in the back-to-school drive, you can check what supplies they need by going through the list here: https://files.constantcontact.com/032225ca001/93341405-24de-4041-9bb0-c0ea5cefa2d0.pdf. The supplies needed are recommended by Pasadena and Altadena area schools.

You can drop off your donations between July 20 and July 23 at Friends in Deed Pasadena, 444 E. Washington Blvd.

“If you would like to help out, here are some things to consider: please avoid all red and all blue backpacks,” the announcement said. “This is very important to us. Backpacks should be sturdy enough to handle the rigors of a student’s day and the crazy amount of books they heft around, especially for our high school students.”
