Fuller Theological Seminary to Host International Lecture on Ukraine War, Russian Orthodox Church

Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena will host an international lecture on the war in Ukraine and the Russian Orthodox Church on Tuesday, April 30, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. at Fuller’s Travis Auditorium. The lecture, titled “The War in Ukraine and the Russian Orthodox Church: Why Does Patriarch Kirill Support Putin’s Invasion?” will delve into the complex interplay between religion and politics in Ukraine.

The event’s guest speaker is Dr. Kimmo Kääriäinen, the Head of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Church Council of the Lutheran Church in Finland. Known for his deep understanding of the religious dimensions of international affairs, Dr. Kääriäinen’s insights make this a must-attend event for those interested in the broader implications of the war in Ukraine.

President David Emmanuel Goatley of Fuller Theological Seminary said, “This lecture represents a crucial opportunity for our community and the public at large to engage with the pressing issues at the intersection of faith and global conflicts. The event will also feature an audience Q&A moderated by Dr. Kutter Callaway, William K. Brehm Chair of Worship, Theology, and the Arts; Associate Dean, Center for Advanced Theological Studies; and Co-Director, Brehm Film.

The event is free and open to the public. Travis Auditorium is located at 180 N. Oakland Ave. Parking will be available in the School of Psychology lot on the corner of Madison and Walnut. A Zoom option will also be available.
