Givens Helps PCC Women’s Swim Lead South Coast Conference Finals, Day 1

The Pasadena City College women’s team won four of the five events performed Thursday on Day 1 of the South Coast Conference Swim Championships held at Cerritos College. The Lancers led the team competition with 192 points, three ahead of SCC dual meet champion Mt. San Antonio during the SCC finals that continue Friday-Saturday, April 22-23.

Sophomore Ariahn Givens swam a career-best 24.71 seconds to become SCC champion in the 50-yard freestyle. The swim is also is the second fastest time recorded in school history. Teammate Anais Hacobian placed second (25.44) while Sharon Perez (fifth, 26.18) and Phoebe Lee (seventh, 26.73) all picked up top 8 points for the Lancers.

Letterman Liza Echeverria repeated as SCC champ in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:13.79. PCC captured titles in winning both the 200 freestyle relay (Hacobian, Perez, Lee, and Givens) at 1:41.39, and 400 medley relay (Hacobian, Perez, Echeverria, and Givens) in 4:13.40. Pasadena has won the 400 medley relay in each of the last four SCC Championship meets, setting a conference record in the event in 2014 (4:02.70).

The PCC men’s team is seventh (89 points) thus far in the SCC Championships. David Jimenez swam a fine 22.24 to take fourth in the 50 freestyle. Mt. San Antonio leads the 8-team standings with 226 points.
