Late Tuesday night, Mayor Victor Gordo proclaimed victory in his election matchup against Allen Shay.

Gordo has maintained a massive sizable lead over Shay since election results began trickling in shortly before 8:30 p.m.

As of this hour, Gordo has amassed 11,464 votes (83.72%). Shay trails with 2,229 votes or 16% of the vote.

In a statement released shortly before 11 p.m., the Gordo campaign called it a “resounding and dominant performance,” and cited Gordo’s overwhelming support from the community demonstrates the strong connection he has built during his tenure as Mayor of Pasadena.

“I am deeply honored and grateful for the overwhelming support shown by the community in the primary election,” said Mayor Gordo. “This victory is a testament to the hard work of my dedicated staff, passionate volunteers, and the unwavering support of the incredible people of Pasadena. Together, we have achieved so much, and I am excited to continue our work to enhance the quality of life in our city.”

Gordo’s performance is in line with other elected mayors’ victories in two candidate races.

Bill Bogaard captured about 85% of the vote when he defeated Philip Koebel in 2003 and an impressive 89% when he defeated Aaron Proctor in 2007.

Gordo took a solid lead in the first round of results with nearly 85% of the vote and has not faced a serious challenge to his lead since.

Gordo was elected Pasadena’s third Citywide-elected Mayor in recent history on November 3, 2020. Throughout his time as Mayor, according to his bio, he has focused on fostering an improved quality of life and promoting safe, family-friendly environments throughout the City. As Mayor, together with the City Council, Victor has guided Pasadena through the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery during a challenging time of social inequity, mass retirements, and the search for a new City Manager.

Gordo began his journey to the mayor’s office way back in 1997, when then–Vice Mayor Bill Crowfoot appointed him as the field representative for District 5. Pasadena’s District 5 soon after the City was forced to redraw district lines to comply with the Voting Rights Act allowing for a greater chance of Latino representation.

Following Crowfoot’s retirement, Gordo was elected to the District 5 seat and eventually was selected by the Pasadena City Council to serve as its representative on the Rose Bowl Operating Company Board and was its longest-serving President/Chair, leading the stadium’s renovation efforts.
