Mayor Victor Gordo will complete one of the requirements mandated by the City Charter when he gives his first State of the City Speech at 7 p.m. on Feb. 24.

According to the charter, “No later than February of each year, the Mayor shall present a thematic budget message for the upcoming fiscal year to the City Council.”

The event will air on KPAS-TV. It will also be live-streamed at pasadenamedia.org/kpas<https://www.pasadenamedia.org/kpas/.

This year’s speech will be a reflection on the challenges the community has faced over the past year, highlighting accomplishments included in the city’s 2020 Annual Report, and a look ahead to the city’s future.

Due to changes in the city’s elections, Gordo is the first mayor to hold a State of the City speech within 90 days of being elected.

The speech will probably include housing and economic recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During this year’s address, the community is encouraged to support local businesses by ordering takeout or delivery from a Pasadena restaurant. The city, in collaboration with the Pasadena Convention and Visitors Bureau, launched an online directory of restaurants that have remained open during the pandemic.

“These have been trying times for all of us. To help support our local restaurants, I am inviting you to order takeout and join me from the comfort of your home as I deliver my first State of the City address directly from my home,” Gordo said.

“Thank you for the honor and privilege of serving as your mayor,” he said.

The city’s 2020 Annual Report will be available for review online at www.cityofpasadena.net/city-manager/annual-reports/<file://ci.pasadena.ca.us/users/userdata/AMellem/desktoproot/desktop/Mayor%20Gordo/SOC%202021/www.cityofpasadena.net/city-manager/annual-reports/> starting Feb. 24.

The address will also include a special video presentation, and Gordo will respond to questions from community members submitted via video. The city will provide Spanish translation.

The directory is categorized for easy access and ordering. View the directory at visitpasadena.com/covid-19-resources/pasadenabusinesses.
