The City of Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department announced Tuesday that Grammy award-winning rapper and producer Hit-Boy will perform at the City’s 15th annual Juneteenth celebration. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 at Robinson Park, 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave.

Hit-Boy is a Grammy-winning producer who has worked with some of the biggest names in hip hop, including Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nas, Travis Scott and Beyoncé. He is also a talented rapper, and his music has been featured in films and television shows.

Juneteenth commemorates the effective end of slavery in the United States. Two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, news reached Texas that slavery had been abolished. On June 19, 1865, formerly enslaved people in Texas celebrated their freedom with prayer, feasting, song and dance.

Today, Juneteenth is a day to reflect and celebrate African American history and culture.

This year’s free, family-friendly Juneteenth celebration will also feature an art exhibit from the Alkebulan Cultural Center, live music by Luv From Abuv, a Juneteenth history presentation by Octavia’s Bookshelf, arts & crafts with Armory Center for the Arts, community resources, and more.

Hot dogs, hot links, drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.

The Juneteenth celebration is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit the City of Pasadena website.
