Guest Opinion | Councilmember John J. Kennedy: Memorial Day is A Day to Reflect

Published on Monday, May 30, 2022 | 5:00 am

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As Memorial Day approaches, I hope you will join me in reflecting upon not just our shared bounties, but also upon the debt we owe to those who have given their lives for our country, both overseas and here at home so that we may enjoy our many freedoms.

As we grieve with the parents in Texas who lost young children to irrational violence, we must commit together to honor the sacrifices of so many of our fellow citizens who have stood against violence. Further, we honor those who continue every day to put their lives on the line to protect us and our nation, including members of the armed services serving abroad and first responders serving right here in Pasadena.

Our nation has been blessed in so many ways, and we have so much to be grateful for I believe that by continuing to work together, we can look forward to even better days ahead.

So as we enjoy this holiday and the advent of summer, let us temper our celebrations with remembrance of fallen heroes whose sacrifices have made it possible for us to celebrate here with family and friends.

Happy Memorial Day 2022!

Respectfully yours,

John J. Kennedy
Pasadena City Councilmember, District 3
