Gwendolyn Jones, Former NAACP Pasadena Branch Official, Dead at 72

Gwendolyn Jones, a former treasurer of the NAACP Pasadena Branch and an active member of the Pasadena area community, died on Dec. 2, 2023. She was 72.

Born on July 8, 1951, in Ann Arbor, Mich., Jones resided in Monrovia at the time of her passing. She served in many local leadership capacities, most notably as the “financial guru behind the success” of the Pasadena Branch of the NAACP during the tenure of Joe Brown.

“Every penny accounted for and spent wisely,” Brown said. “She ALWAYS displayed a high level of respect and had superb people skills. During turbulent community upheavals in Monrovia, Duarte, Pasadena, and Altadena, she was the go-to person.”

A public viewing will be held on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Douglass and Zook Funeral Home, 600 E. Foothill Blvd., in Monrovia. 

The homegoing celebration will take place on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Holy Assembly COGIC, 55 E. Villa St., in Pasadena. 

Internment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park & Cemetery, 3888 Workman Mill Rd., in Whittier.
