Officials evacuated visitors from the area around Mt. Baldy after a brush fire ignited and quickly grew beyond two acres in size on Thursday, authorities said.
The wildfire, christened the Hogsback Fire by firefighters, was first reported shortly after 9:30 a.m. along Mt. Baldy Road, near Glendora Ridge Road, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Sheriff’s deputies conducted evacuations of the area as the fire quickly consumed 2 to 3 acres, burning through heavy brush, according to the USFS. Air tankers were summoned to drop fire retardant on the flames.
Firefighters were making “good progress” as of 11:15 a.m., the USFS said via social media.
No injuries had been reported, and there was no immediate threat to any structured, according to the agency.
Officials reported conditions including dry vegetation, low humidity and gusty winds.
The public was urged to avoid the area.
