Heat Wave to Scorch Southland, Memorial Day Expected to Hit 92

The county will open a cooling center in Altadena early this week as a new heatwave is expected to scorch the area.

Temperatures in Pasadena are expected to reach the 90s on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday according to the National Weather Service.

Locally, the cooling center will be located at Loma Alta Park, 3330 Lincoln Ave., Altadena.

The center will be open from noon to 6 p.m., and will “operate in compliance with physical distancing and other safety criteria” due to the coronavirus pandemic, officials said.

Temperatures are also expected to hit the 90s next week in parts of the San Gabriel Valley, but they won’t be as high or as widespread as in the other valleys.

The National Weather Service might issue heat advisories for some valley areas of Los Angeles County as early as Tuesday, forecasters said.

Saturday’s high in downtown Los Angeles was 76, but that number was expected to jump to 86 on Monday, 88 on Tuesday and 90 on Wednesday, before a slight cooling trend takes hold next weekend.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 93. Calm wind becoming south southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66.

Thursday: Patchy fog. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 91.

Thursday Night: Patchy fog before midnight. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 64.

Friday: Patchy fog after noon. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 84.

Friday Night: Patchy fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Saturday: Patchy fog. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 82.

Saturday Night: Patchy fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 58.
