Here Are the Investigative Steps That Will Take Place After Saturday’s Officer-Involved Shooting

Per the City’s policy, this is what will happen next in the officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday night.

Police shot and killed Ricardo Guade Andrade, 36, of San Fernando.

Andrade became wanted on a felony charge after he almost struck a police officer with his vehicle on Saturday night.

The vehicle chase ended with the suspect’s truck crashing into a parked Tesla, according to authorities.

After the crash, the suspect fled from the scene leading to a yard-to-yard search. After the man was located, the shooting occurred, police said.

Officers were forced to open fire after the suspect drew a gun while wrestling with a police canine, according to reports.

Andrade was taken to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead, according to police.

At some point, the Police Department will also release the names of the officers involved in the shooting.

A handgun was recovered from the shooting scene, according to police. No officers were injured during the shooting.

Since multiple officers were at the scene in multiple cruisers, there should be multiple instances of body-worn and patrol car-mounted camera footage.

The City has 45 days to release the footage. In the past, the department has released officer-involved shooting footage well before the deadline.

The Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit is conducting a criminal investigation and an administrative review. Both of those reviews are currently in the early stages.

The administrative review will determine if the shooting was in policy and also contains a use of force review.

Separately, the District Attorney’s Office sends out its own investigators. Currently, it is taking years for that office to announce its findings.
