About 30 high school students welcomed July and the upcoming Independence Day holiday by tossing raw eggs at the Caltech campus lawn on Wednesday afternoon.
As part of the Caltech Young Engineering and Science Scholars Program, underrepresented high school students participated in the Raw Egg Catapult Design competition, which is considered a “popular sporting event” by Caltech students.
The competition entailed participants engineering an ideal catapult designed to toss raw eggs at least 20 feet toward a target as part of a physics course.
“Team Undecided” was the winner of the accuracy competition, while “Team Berserk” claimed top honors in the distance competition.
