Police arrested a 54-year-old homeless man Saturday after he allegedly threatened another homeless man with a knife as they quarreled in Old Pasadena over what they both claimed as their territory for panhandling.

Pasadena Police Lt. Mark Goodman said the victim, a 46-year-old man who frequents Pasadena, was panhandling on the corner of De Lacey Avenue and Colorado Blvd. at about 4:46 p.m. when the other homeless man approached him.

“The suspect told him that was his spot to panhandle and was asking him to leave the corner,” Goodman said. “The victim refused to leave and the suspect, in response, pulled out a knife and threatened to kill the victim. Fearing he may be stabbed, the victim fled and reported the incident to the police department.”

Goodman said officers responded and found the suspect near the area. The suspect, later identified as Larry Parker, was apprehended without incident.

Parker was booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, Goodman said.
