Homeless Man Threatens to Stab Clerk Over Bag of Potato Chips

A 49-year-old transient is now in custody after forcibly taking a bag of chips from the Mobil gas station store on 290 South Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena Saturday night.

The suspect, identified as Brandon Melton, was booked on suspicion of armed robbery. Melton was arrested when Pasadena Police officers saw him hanging out near the gas station, and eating from the bag of potato chips he allegedly took from the store.

Pasadena Police Lt. John Mercado said police received a call from the store clerk at about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, and immediately dispatched a team to the area.

Merc ado said the suspect and took the bag of chips without paying.

“The suspect goes into the Mobil gas station and grabs a bag of chips, and exits the store without paying for them. The clerk follows him outside and demands that the chips be returned. The suspect tells him that he has a knife and that he would stab him. So the clerk – rightfully so and fearing for his safety – goes back in and he calls 911,” Mercado said.

Upon arrival, police officers saw the suspect near the gas station. He had the bag of chips in his hand when he was arrested him for the robbery.
