Police say an illegal street race around 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of West Claremont street went horribly wrong, leaving the suspected race car and two parked cars badly damaged.

There are no known injuries, police said.

Pasadena Police Lt. John Mercado said that 911 operators received multiple calls from the area reporting a collision which had occurred during a race and that one of the cars was left overturned in the street.

Even though officers arrived quickly, Mercado said, they could find not immediately locate an overturned car.

The officers’ investigation ultimately led them to the rear parking area of an apartment complex on West Claremont near Fair Oaks where they found a damaged red Camaro. They were unable to locate the car’s owner.

It was determined that the Camaro had in fact been in a race with a second unidentified car, Mercado said. The Camaro’s driver had lost control, he said, and collided with two parked car, causing significant damage to those vehicles.

Pasadena Now received images from a reader of damage caused by the crash. The pictures reveal that the force of the impact shoved one of the parked cars backwards and up onto the hood, windscreen and roof of a second parked car.

Mercado said the Department’s motor division will be investigating the crash.
