Two South Pasadena police officers rescued an hysterical woman who threatening to jump from a bridge onto the 110 Pasadena Freeway Sunday evening.

At approximately 6:10 pm, South Pasadena officers were dispatched to the freeway overpass at Prospect Avenue and Grevelia Street in response to a report of a suicidal female threatening to jump onto the 110 Freeway.

The first officers on scene, Corporal Juan Salcido and Officer Brian Wiley, saw the female subject sitting on the ledge of the overpass, facing the freeway. She was hysterical and yelling while she was talking on her cell phone, threatening to jump.

Seeing that she was distracted while talking on the phone, Corporal Salcido approached the woman and grabbed her around her waist to pull her off the ledge. She struggled momentarily but Salcido, with the assistance of Officer Wiley, was able to safely get her onto the sidewalk.

The woman is a twenty year old resident of South Pasadena. She was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Corporal Salcido is a nine year veteran of the South Pasadena Police Department; Officer Wiley recently graduated from the police academy. This was his first day on patrol.
