Pasadena police detectives this morning finished processing the scene of a Friday afternoon shooting which left a suspect dead and a Pasadena police officer shot in the leg.

The officer has undergone surgery at a local hospital and was in serious but stable condition.

The 3:35 p.m. shootout near Allen Avenue and Corson Street came at the end of a slow-moving but dangerous pursuit. After officers executed a PIT manuever to stop the chase, the suspect reportedly got out of his car with a gun and shot at police.

The gunman died in a hail of bullets from about a half-dozen officers returning fire, authorities said.

The suspect’s identity has not yet been released by the Los Angeles Coroner’s office.

The Pasadena Police Dept. will not be the only agency examining the shooting.

According to Pasadena police Lt. William Grisafe, “the District Attorney’s Office will be conducting their own investigation as is normal protocol.”

It is not known if the injured officer was struck by a bullet fired by the suspect or a ricochet from a fellow officer, Grisafe said.
