Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., a global construction services firm with headquarters in Pasadena, announced today the appointment of Steven J. Demetriou as new President and CEO, replacing Craig Martin who retired in December last year citing health reasons.

With this appointment, Demetriou will also be elected to the board of directors of the company that employs an estimated 66,000 people in 30 countries around the globe.

In 2014, Jacobs, listed at JEC in the New York Stock Exchange, earned revenues of up to $12.7 billion.

Demetriou, a Cleveland, Ohio native, recently served as Chairman and CEO of Aleris Corporation, a global downstream aluminum producer based in Cleveland. He also brings more than 30 years of experience with companies in the metals, specialty chemicals, oil and gas, manufacturing and fertilizer industries.

Demetriou worked for 16 years at ExxonMobil performing operations, financial and general management roles in the U.S. and in Europe.

Demetriou starts his new role with Jacobs on August 17, during which Executive Chairman Noel Watson, who has been functioning as Executive Chairman during the transition since Craig’s retirement, will return to his chairman position when Demetriou joins the company. As CEO, he will work with senior management and the Board to develop strategies aimed at strengthening Jacobs’ position as a global industry leader.

In a statement, Demetriou said he is honored to be selected as the next CEO.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to lead a company with such an enviable global talent base and a strong reputation as one of the world’s largest and most diverse providers of technical professional and construction services. My immediate objective is to listen and engage with Jacobs’ employees, customers and shareholders, as well as develop and implement strategies to realize Jacobs’ enormous potential to achieve focused growth into the future.”

Demetriou also serves on the boards of Foster Wheeler Ltd. and Kraton Polymers. In the Cleveland community, he serves on the boards of several organizations including the United Way of Greater Cleveland, Cuyahoga Community College Foundation and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.
