James A. Shankwiler, M.D. Elected Chief of the Medical Staff at Huntington Memorial Hospital

James A. Shankwiler, M.D., has been elected president of the medical staff at Huntington Memorial Hospital, effective January 1, 2015. A board certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Shankwiler, now leads a medical staff of more than 800 active physicians in serving residents of the greater San Gabriel Valley and beyond.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Shankwiler is currently a member of Congress Orthopedic Associates, a highly respected and progressive Pasadena-based orthopedic group dedicated to quality patient care, cutting-edge research and comprehensive patient education. He is also the team physician and orthopedic consultant to Pasadena City College.

Dr. Shankwiler earned his medical degree at University of Southern California after earning a Bachelor of Science degree (Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian) from the School of Science at California State University, Pomona. He completed his internship/residency at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center, and his fellowship at W.B. Carrell Memorial Clinic at Baylor University Hospital in Dallas where he was the first fellow in shoulder and elbow reconstruction (under W.Z. Burkhead).

The author of numerous scientific articles and book chapters concerning shoulder and elbow pathology, Dr. Shankwiler has also been an invited lecturer throughout the country. He continues to teach and is a Clinical Professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Southern California. Dr. Shankwiler is a member of the American Medical Association, California Medical Association, Los Angeles County Medical Association, University of Southern California Graduate Orthopedic Society, and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
