Kari Post, an assistant the past two seasons at Pasadena City College, was named acting head coach of the Lancers women’s volleyball program Wednesday by Athletic Director Tony Barbone.

Post, 24, replaces Bill Sanchez, who resigned his interim position effective at the end of the Fall, 2014 semester.

The coaching tandem of Sanchez and Post directed the Lancers to Round 2 of the 2013 regional playoffs and a state No. 14 final ranking. This past season, PCC settled for sixth place in the South Coast Conference. In his two seasons, Sanchez compiled a 20-26 overall record, a 17-11 mark in conference matches.

Post is part of a coaching family whose lineage goes back before Title IX in community college women’s athletics. Her grandmother is Carol Jean Bordsen, who was head volleyball and basketball coach at Yuba College from 1962-1985. Her mother is Thea Bordsen Post, who was head coach of Yuba’s volleyball team from 1986-2005. The two elder Posts are in Yuba’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Kari Post was a star volleyball player at Sutter Union High in Northern California. A setter, Post earned CIF Northern Section MVP honors and helped Sutter to four consecutive league titles and three section championships. She earned a scholarship to West Virginia University and was a 4-year starter for the then Big East Conference Mountaineers. She finished as WVU’s No. 3 all-time leader in set assists and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2011.

Prior to PCC, she served as an assistant coach for one season at Citrus College (2012).

Barbone said, “Coach Sanchez did an admirable job in taking on the task as volleyball head coach over the past two seasons. While we are sorry to see him leave the PCC family, we are excited about the potential that Coach Post brings us. Her family roots might be in Yuba, but she is happy to make PCC her new home. Kari is in tune with the policies and procedures of the district and the CCCAA, which will make the transition very smooth.”

Post can be contacted at her PCC office phone at (626) 585-7403 and by e-mail at kpost@pasadena.edu.
