A 17-year-old minor confessed before the Pasadena Juvenile Court on Tuesday his participation in a burglary that resulted in the fatal shooting by police of his alleged accomplice last March 24.
Juvenile Court Commissioner Robert Leventer handed the teen a six-month sentence at a community camp program after the teen admitted to two felony counts of commercial burglary, one felony count of grand theft and one misdemeanor count of failing to register as a gang member.
19-year-old Kendrec McDade of Azusa, who police say was the minor’s accomplice in burglarizing a taco shop and stealing a laptop computer from a car, was shot to death by two Pasadena police officers after they received a 911 call from a man who falsely reported the youths as armed with guns.
The officers spotted McDade and opened fire at him when they saw him placing his hand in his waistband.
The policemen have been on a paid leave pending investigation while the 911 caller was arrested for involuntary manslaughter, although prosecutors have yet to file charges against him.
