A late-night encounter in a Pasadena parking structure turned dangerous Saturday when a man allegedly threatened four visitors with a six-inch knife.

According to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Matt Campeau, officers responded to a report of assault with a deadly weapon on March 23, at 10:31 p.m. The incident occurred in the 400 block of South Lake Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers learned that four individuals—a 24-year-old man and a 16-year-old teenager from San Jose, California, a 20-year-old woman from Campbell, California, and a 23-year-old man from Milpitas, California—were walking through the parking structure when they were reportedly confronted by the suspect, later alleged by police to be 42-year-old Robert Ramos of Pasadena.

Campeau reported that Ramos brandished the kitchen knife and challenged the victims to a fight.

He then allegedly cornered them before one of the victims called 911. Ramos subsequently fled on foot.

His description was broadcast over police radio channels.

Approximately an hour later, a Pasadena police officer patrolling the area of North Los Robles Avenue and Maple Street spotted an individual matching the description. The officer detained the subject, and a field identification was conducted.

All four victims positively identified the detained individual as the suspect who had threatened them with the knife, according to Campeau.

Ramos was subsequently arrested and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon charges at the Pasadena City Jail.

It remains unclear whether the suspect knew the victims beforehand. The investigation is ongoing.
