L.A. County Extends Safer-at-Home and Business-Closure Orders, While Pasadena’s Remain In Place Indefinitely

While Los Angeles County on Friday extended stay-at-home and business-closure orders until May 15 to safeguard against the spread of the coronavirus, Pasadena officials said there were no plans to lift existing orders in the city, which they said remain in place indefinitely.

“The governor’s stay-at-home order applies to all of us, including L.A. County, and does not expire until rescinded,’’ Dr. Ying-Ying Goh, the city’s public health officer, told Pasadena Now in a statement released by city spokesperson Lisa Derderian.

Derderian also said Friday afternoon: “Our order will remain until further notice at this point. We’ve never put an end date on our stay-at-home orders. It’s always said until further notice.’’

Gov. Gavin Newsom has said he does not expect to lift the state’s stay-at-home order anytime soon, and that the state is expecting COVID-19 cases to peak sometime in May.

Meanwhile, the county on Friday reported 18 more deaths due to coronavirus, bringing the county’s total to 241. County health officials also reported 475 more cases of coronavirus, bringing the county’s total to 8,430.

It’s unclear if those numbers include Pasadena cases, since the city has its own health department and reports its own numbers.

The city on Thursday had reported that a fifth local resident infected with the coronavirus had died. Meanwhile, 13 new cases were reported in the city, bringing the Pasadena total to 107 cases, according to Derderian.
