Published on Monday, July 20, 2020 | 3:00 am

County officials reported 2,848 new cases of the Coronavirus on Sunday and 11 new deaths bringing the total cases to 155,887 and 4,095 deaths in LA County since the pandemic began.

In total, 2,216 people are currently hospitalized due to the virus throughout L.A. County, according to LADPH Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer.

This is the highest number of new hospitalizations reported in a day, surpassing the 2,193 hospitalizations seen four days ago.

“We continue to reach concerning milestones and today we are seeing the highest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations. Right now, young adults are being hospitalized at a rate not seen before,” said Ferrer. “No matter how young you are, you are vulnerable to this virus. I urge everyone to take collective responsibility – stay physically apart from people you don’t live with, properly wear a face covering when you are outside your home but stay home as much as possible.”

This is the fifth consecutive day of hospitalization over 2,100 confirmed cases and the first time hospitalizations have reached over 2,200, according to officials.

Testing results are available for over 1,515,000 individuals as of Sunday, with a positivity rate of nine percent, according to public health officials.

The majority of all cases have occurred in people under the age of 41 years old with over 52% or 77,000 people younger than 41 years old infected with COVID-19, according to health officials.
