La Pintoresca Park Grand Re-Opening Set for Saturday, May 28

La Pintoresca Park, at 45 E. Washington Blvd. in Pasadena, is finally re-opening after the completion of some significant renovation work that started early in 2021.

To celebrate the re-opening, the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is holding a Grand Re-Opening and Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 28, starting with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.

Brenda Harvey-Williams, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, said her department has arranged for live entertainment, free food, and lots of games for the children and the older adults attending Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The renovated park will feature a new splash pad and skate park, a resurfaced basketball court, a new playground shade structure, new LED lighting at the skate park and basketball court, and newly remodeled park restrooms.

Some of the renovation work had to be passed on to a new contractor under an Emergency Purchase Order in April after the Department of Public Works noted delays in the work by the original contractor.

The renovation project started in March 2021 and was supposed to have been completed by last July.

Family Fun Day on May 28, which also celebrates La Pintoresca’s 26 years of bringing families, friends and neighbors together, will also feature arts and crafts with the Armory Center for the Arts, a skateboard expo, bike repair workshop, a video game bus, laser tag, bingo, and live entertainment by “Monday Night Live Band.”

A “tiny tot” area will be provided by the Public Health Department, and the Pasadena Police and Fire Departments will be on the grill cooking free hamburgers and hot dogs for all to enjoy.
